Playing 4 bar cycles with fills
It is essential for any musician - especially drummers - to get to feel music in chunks of 4 bars.
At least 99% of all western popular music (pop, rock, jazz etc.) is constructed from 4 (or 8/12/16/32) bar building blocks.
Remember - always try to play in 4 bar phrases to internalize the "4-bar feeling".

Mixing eighth notes and sixteenth notes on the same beat
In one single beat there's room for four 16th notes and two eighth notes - or you can play a combination.
These are the two most common variations:
Two 16th notes and one eighth note

This example is played with random hihat openings (which are discussed in Lesson 7). You can of course play without them right now.
